School Uniform

School uniform requirements for our school.

It is the policy of St Patrick’s that every child wears our designated school uniform.  This is to reflect our sense of community and the importance of a shared commitment to our school family.

The wearing of a school uniform is strongly recommended on the basis that.

  • it need not cost more than other clothes;
  • it promotes a sense of shared identity;
  • it is neat and practical;
  • the competition/pressure for fashionable clothing is eliminated.

All long hair must be tied back at all times. No oversized or brightly coloured hair accessories are allowed. Please stick to green, white, grey or black plain hair ties/bobbles or slides. Bobbles will be given on arrival where necessary. We do not expect pupils to have excessively shaved, patterned or dyed hair

For us, consistency, fairness and equality are extremely important.  There should be no competition in what we wear.  At St Patrick’s, we concentrate on pupils’ learning and providing the best experiences possible for all our children.  We are clear about our expectations so we do not spend unnecessary time on other distractions.

St. Patrick’s embroidered school uniform can be ordered via the My Clothing website. Items without a school logo are available in most large supermarkets. We also have a ‘pop-up’ shop at the main entrance of clean, preloved items that can be taken by families for free or for a small donation if they wish. Please contact the school office if you are looking for items in a certain size and we will do our best to assist.

On health and safety grounds, we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school, except for wrist watches (which must be removed during PE lessons – no smart watches).  If you wish to have your child’s ears pierced, then we ask that you do so at the beginning of the summer holidays to ensure that by the start of the Autumn term there is no need for earrings to be worn. Please avoid any discomfort for your child by sticking to this timetable as we do not allow earrings in school at any time.

It is again strongly recommended that all pupils wear “sensible” black shoes for school (with laces/buckles/velcro fastenings as slip on court-style shoes do not offer much protection). Trainers/plimsolls should be worn for PE lessons (although once lessons are underway e.g. gymnastics pupils may be barefoot).

Bag storage is limited therefore we ask school rucksack (KS2) and school book bag (KS1/EYFS)  and a draw string swim bag. No oversized bags please. Book bags and drawstring bags are available to order with uniform (again this is optional).  Children should wear their PE uniform on their timetabled day and also if taking part in a sports after school club.
