Wellbeing

Wellbeing information about our school.

Mental well-being describes how you are feeling and how well you cope with day-to-day life.

Feelings of well-being are fundamental to the overall health of an individual, enabling them to successfully overcome difficulties and achieve what they want out of life.

Past experiences, attitudes and outlook can all impact well-being, as can physical or emotional trauma following specific incidents.

Our mental health can change from moment to moment, day to day and month to month.

Here are some ideas which may improve our well-being:

Promoting Well-Being: 5 Key Areas to Focus On

1. Connect with Others

Building strong relationships with friends, family, and the community is essential for emotional well-being. Engaging in meaningful conversations, participating in group activities and offering support to others can create a sense of belonging and improve mental health. Remember, a simple chat or a shared laugh can make a big difference.

At St Patrick’s, we ensure our pupils understand every person is a valued part of our school family.  We plan activities which encourage children to work and play with each other positively and productively and we want our pupils to see being part of our school community is fun.

2. Be Active

Physical activity is not only beneficial for your body but also for your mind. Regular exercise can boost your mood, increase energy levels and reduce stress. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a game of basketball or a dance class, find an activity you enjoy and make it a part of your routine.

At St Patrick’s, we encourage our pupils to be physically active and we ensure we plan a range of activities within and beyond the curriculum to support this.

3. Take Notice of Your Surroundings

Mindfulness and being present in the moment can enhance your appreciation for life. Pay attention to the beauty around you, whether it’s the changing seasons, the sound of birds or the smile of a friend. Taking notice of the small things can help you feel more grounded and content.

At St Patrick’s, we operate within a calm, quiet environment and we incorporate different ways to allow our pupils to stop and reflect.  Our range of prayerful activities includes meditation.

4. Enjoy Learning

Learning new skills or gaining knowledge can be incredibly fulfilling. It keeps your mind active and opens new opportunities. Whether it is picking up a new hobby, reading a book or taking a course, find something that excites you and dive in. The joy of learning can be a great boost to your well-being.

At St Patrick’s, we work hard to ensure education is fun and engaging, after all, we want our pupils to continue to enjoy learning as they continue their adventures beyond our school.

5. Give

Acts of kindness and generosity can significantly impact your happiness. Volunteering, helping a friend or simply offering a kind word can create positive feelings and strengthen your connections with others. Giving not only benefits those around you but also enhances your own sense of purpose and satisfaction.

At St Patrick’s, we hold tremendous value in working to support others: in our own school, locally and more widely.  We know our actions can make a big difference to the lives of others.

By focusing on these five areas, you can cultivate a more balanced and fulfilling life. Remember, well-being is a journey and every small step counts. We want to make our school a place where everyone can thrive!
